The deadline was May 13th, but this site was down then. Perhaps the information is useful anyway.

Yeah Utah Film and Video Center!!! This is where I got my start into the motion picture medium! If you are in Utah you really need to check this place out...they show great local movies and have great classes on video production (sadly I don't think they have classes on Super8 or any kind of film for that matter anymore...with everything going digital and all...).
Be warned though...the stuff they show is pretty much "open screen" as in open mic. I have seen some amazing stuff there, but also some downright dreadfull stuff. I once saw a documentary there that was 45 minutes of some WWII vet retelling his experiences...45 minutes of a talking head. Not a single cut. Definately in the "learn what not to do" category.

Well, I Fed-EX'd my film off to this festival today.
They can play practically every format EXCEPT BetaCam SP. I entered my film in the Super-8 category.
I decided to send my film on DV-CAM. I would NEVER send my entry on a mini-dv. As a helpful hint, ALWAYS send your entry in the standard size housing that properly fits the videodeck. NEVER send in your entry in the mini-size version.
I'm being stern here but I believe it's best to minimize the chance of operator error. Human error can cause the mini-tapes to be placed incorrectly into the larger sized video machines.
Why not increase your chances of success and that of the festival's by giving them your entry in the standard size housing that fits the video deck without a special adapter.

Oops, I seem to have missed this question.
The tapes are physically different for starters. DV-CAM can record up to 3 hours on one tape, BetaCam SP can only record 93 minutes.
BetaCam SP tape is a true archival tape stock, DV-CAM is extremely whimpy and thin, and I don't know how well it would hold up as an archival stock.
DV-CAM color samples at a 4:1:1: rate, Beta-Cam SP samples at a 4:2:2: rate. DV-CAM is close in quality to BetaCam SP, and delivers a lot for being a much smaller tape format.
BetaCam SP videoediting decks are superior to DV-CAM, but then again DV-CAM is made specifically to transfer via firewire digital into the computer.
However, only now, 6 years after the DV-CAM format was released, can one buy a somewhat economical DV-CAM deck that allows for external time-code in and for settable time-code, a MUST for any serious editing studio.
